Just An AMAZING Night

Dear Members of the Georgetown Community:

I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to the SEPAC, PTA, and GeorgetownCares for their work and generosity in organizing, planning, and funding the workshop last night on Understanding The Impact Of Anxiety On Our Students.  I am so proud of their efforts!  And you, the community, responded.  There were nearly 80 people in attendance!  And half of those attendees were employees of Georgetown Public Schools.  It was standing room only at Flatbreads.  I should also note that the abundance of pizza and salad certainly capped up an amazing evening.

Dr. Angela Curie mesmerized the audience with her take on the impact of anxiety on how our students learn.  She was both engaging and informative, and all in attendance left with more knowledge about an important topic.

The sad fact about all of this is that attendance was high because this is a topic that affects parents and teachers at an alarmingly high rate.  Anxiety disorders are the most commonly diagnosed disorders in the United States.  Approximately 18% of the population has been given this diagnosis, including 25% of children between the ages of 13 and 18.  Anxiety disorders also often co-occur with other disorders such as depression, eating disorders, and attention-deficit disorder.  I have attached a copy of the powerpoint to this post, and will also display it on my webpage.

Many thanks again to all that made the event so successful last night.  It is just incredible what we all can do when the school and community work together for the betterment of our youth.

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Jack Tiano
