January 2017

January 25, 2017

Dear Georgetown Community:

Happy New Year! I look forward to many more serving your children within the Georgetown Public Schools.

Last month I had the opportunity to present to the school committee on the special education process at the Perley and Penn Brook Schools. At the first school committee meeting of this new year, I was again able to present. This time, information was given about special education services and programming at Georgetown Middle High School. Joining me for the event were Kristopher Oldoni, Kevin Moyer, Veronica Schaeffer, and Kristen Kennedy. As expected, the school committee asked important, pointed, and educated questions to better understand this process. Our presentation can be found at the following link:

And speaking of the school committee, the next meeting on Thursday, January 26th, will predominantly focus on the proposed FY18 budget. I’m certain that there will be several questions about special education costs, so I encourage people to attend.

I also encourage you all to attend our next SEPAC meeting scheduled for Wednesday, February 15th, at 7:30 PM at Flatbreads. I have put together a presentation on the MCAS test, with a strong focus on accommodations available for students with disabilities. You won’t want to miss it!

I plan to spend the rest of this school year continuing to work with both staff members and students to ensure that your children reach their potential, and become the adults you expect them to be.  I will keep working with staff through the evaluation process to provide pertinent feedback, and stress our commitment to creating academic mindsets, differentiating for different learners, and providing research based strategies to meet the needs of all students.  Always feel free to stop by the Student Services Office to let me know how I am doing.  To you and your families, I wish you the best that 2017 has to offer.

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Jack Tiano

Director of Student Services
