School opens remotely for students (grades k-12) on Wed. Sept. 16, 2020

I want to let everyone know that schools  in Georgetown will begin for all students in K12 on September 16, 2020. The schools will open fully remote according to the vote taken by the School Committee on Wednesday August 12.

This decision was made based on recent metrics that came from the state and  revealed that the number of recent cases of COVID over the past two weeks was in the risk zone  and we fell into the yellow zone. In addition, based  on recommendations from our health advisory committee and members of the local Board of Health, we decided that beginning the school year remotely was the prudent course of action. The Committee also voted to review these  metrics and trend data on a regular basis because the goal is to get our schools open for students as soon as possible. The next review will be on September 15 and , if it was determined safe , schools would open on October 1.  If not, the Committee will conduct a review every four weeks.

We are planning to provide some in person services for our high needs special education students during the remote learning period . More information will be coming out about this in the next week.

This has been a challenging time for all of us but we have said the medical information about the virus will guide our plans and the recent information we received is the reason for our decision . The safety of our staff and students is our top priority.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and stay safe!
