Rising Leaders Model UN a Success!

14 students from our Model UN club attended their first conference at Northeastern run by the United Nations Association of Greater Boston. There were delegations from 18 Massachusetts schools, almost all of them bigger than GHS.
Our school’s club was initiated by a group of juniors and not one member had any experience with Model UN, which makes this experience even more impressive. The students did a great job as they debated a range of international issues. They participated in the committees debating State Security in Somalia, Preserving Water Sources, Protecting the Rights of the Kurdish Minority, and Preserving the Rights of Asylum Seekers.
The most impressive thing is that our newly formed MUN club won two awards!
  • Nick Hiltz and Lindsay Umenhofer representing U.S. in the UNHRC: Rights of the Kurdish Minority won an award for the Best Position Paper.
  • Julia Walsh and Fiona Jannell representing Japan in the UNEP: Preserving Water Sources won an award for the Best Delegation (all around impressive).
