National Honor Society Induction – new class joins prestigious society.

It was a pleasure to attend the Georgetown National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on the evening of March 13, 2019. The ceremony was a wonderful celebration of the accomplishments of the juniors and seniors who have earned the distinction of admission into this prestigious society based on their scholarship, service, leadership and character.  As the members of the current NHS members welcomed the new members, they spoke about the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership and character and their significance to selection into NHS before each new member signed their name into the ” book” that has been used for over fifty years by others on the occasion of their induction. It is truly a symbolic and traditional recognition ceremony that warms my heart every year. This group of students takes advantage of everything the school has to offer by taking the most rigorous course of study, participating in numerous clubs and activities, serving their community both inside and outside of the school and being leaders and role models for their peers by making decisions based on their strong sense of character and commitment to doing the right things. They are all deserving of this recognition and i join their teachers and families in welcoming and congratulating them into the 2019 Class of the National Honor Society!

One special feature of the ceremony every year is that the students select a faculty speaker. This year the speaker was Ms. Beth Felides from the math department .  Beth used her mother as an example of how she thinks about the four pillars in real life. Learning is a life long process and her stories illustrated how these pillars are important throughout our lives and how the new members would be called upon to live and use these pillars in whatever they choose to do or wherever life will take them after high school.  She challenged them to continue to be great people and congratulated them on this great accomplishment.

I would be remiss if  I did not thank Mrs. Cataldo personally and publicly for the important role she has played at GMHS as a teacher, advisor and mentor to so many students during her time here at GMHS. She is planning to retire at the end of this school year and she will be missed greatly! I know you join me in wishing her a long, happy and healthy retirement.

Such a wonderful memory to be cherished always! Congrats to all!
