GMHS Covid-19 update.

Hi Georgetown parents- I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on the Covid-19 numbers at the Middle and High School.

Since we have returned from vacation there have been 34 high school students, 15 middle school students, and 7 faculty/staff/coaches that have tested positive. We have been fortunate that our faculty attendance has been excellent so school has proceeded normally, albeit with a large number of students absent. We have continued with social distancing, regular cleaning, access to hand sanitizer, and rapid Covid testing of students and employees as needed to make school safe and our students have been cooperative with mask wearing. We ask that if your child experiences any signs of illness you keep them home from school and if they test positive for Covid-19 please inform Heather Shupenko our school nurse at 978-352-5790 ext. 3025.

The Center for Disease Control now advises that all middle and high school aged students receive a Covid-19 booster. If you would like to schedule a booster shot or a first or second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for your child, you can go to to schedule an appointment. There are locations nearby that have appointments available. I am aware that the subject of vaccines is a controversial topic for some people in our community, and I want to be clear the GMHS does not require or mandate vaccines. However, as the person responsible for protecting the health of the approximately 600 people who go to school or work in this building and for helping keep our school open to educate and support the children of Georgetown, I believe vaccination and mask wearing are our best tools for accomplishing these goals.

I want to take a moment to thank the teachers, custodians, counselors, secretaries, cafeteria workers, and especially Heather our nurse for working hard to keep school open for our children.

Thank you and enjoy the rest of the week.
