Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT)

will be offered on Tuesday, January 26th*

This test is a special administration to make-up for having to cancel in October. Therefore, it is only being offered to GMHS students in the class of 2022. The PSAT will begin at 7:30am in the Perley school gym.

Georgetown students may register in the Guidance Office between Monday, January 4th and Friday, January 15th. Only checks will be accepted and should be made out to the Town of Georgetown for $17.00. Given the availability of test booklets, those students who do not register by January 15th will not be allowed to register.

Even while school is remote, money can still be dropped off in the guidance office, we are here!

*Testing will adhere to all COVID guidelines and students are required to wear masks to the test and maintain social distancing rules. GMHS reserves the right to cancel the test due to health concerns or other extenuating circumstances. Refunds would be given if necessary*

Upon payment of the registration fee, students receive an Official Student Guide containing a complete practice test with answer key and scoring instructions. Any four-function calculator is allowed during the math portion of the test or a graphing calculator (see the approved listing of calculators within the guide).

The PSAT is typically taken by students in their sophomore and/or junior years. It serves as a preview of the College Board’s Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), taken by many college-bound students. This practice test measures verbal, mathematical, and writing abilities. Results for sophomores and juniors are reported to students on an individual basis as well as in relation to nationwide results. The PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test for juniors wishing to participate in the scholarship competition of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Only Grade 11 students are eligible to enter the competition for National Merit Scholarships.

When test results are returned, students will receive an online score report which includes the correct answers and their own responses and scores. Once scores are back, the guidance department will hold an assembly to explain the scoring and next steps.
