Schools to Support the Potter Family

By now I am sure you have all heard that one of our Georgetown families recently suffered the tragic loss of their home to a house fire . One of the nice things about living in a small town is that when something like this happens, the community rallies around the family.  I know there have been several successful fundraising initiatives which have generated a significant amount of money and donations which will go a long way toward helping this wonderful family move beyond this tragedy.

As a school district where the family’s two children Victoria Carnera and Luis Potter were students,  we want to expand upon what has already been done to help them replace lost items  specifically to support their son Luis who is in high school and the parents as they prepare to move into a residence in Georgetown  until their house can be rebuilt.  They could use household items that they can take with them back to their house when they return.

We will be collecting gift cards only and suggest the just a few of the following but anything will be helpful :

  • Sporting goods stores like Dick’s because Luis lost all of his athletic equipment, skateboard and bike in the fire
  • Home Goods
  • Walmart
  • TJX and Marshalls
  • J.C Penney
  • Kohls
  • Macys
  • Home Depot/Lowes
  • Market Basket

This is by no means an exhaustive list but it targets the family’s need for replacing sports equipment for their son, household items and groceries.  I have spoken with the family and they are very grateful for all of the help and well wishes they have received. As you can imagine, it is overwhelming and anything we can do will make it easier for this family to move on from this tragedy. As a school community we want to join the rest of Georgetown in putting our arms around them and letting them know how much we care.

Gift cards can be dropped off in the school offices with the school secretaries who will collect them and keep them safe or at the Superintendent’s Office at Perley.  We are not accepting cash but those who might want to donate cash can do so on the go fund me page that has been set up for the family.

This gift card drive will begin  next week and extend through October 2, 2017. Thank you in advance for your generosity.  Our thoughts go out to everyone in the Potter family and I know that these gift cards will be used with much appreciation!
