National Honor Society Students Inducted

NHS

congrats

This post is a little late but I didn’t want to miss recognizing these hardworking students!  Every year, it is a treat for me to attend and participate in the induction of the new class of students into the  National Honor Society.  An audience of parents, families and staff gathered to celebrate and congratulate this special  group of juniors and seniors on their selection into this prestigious and elite society of young people who have earned this honor.  Selection to this society is dependent on a student’s ability to demonstrate their commitment to the four pillars of NHS ; scholarship, leadership, character and service. It is always a pleasure to watch these students receive their certificates and walk across the stage to sign the historic book that includes the names of all of the inductees for the past 52 years!

One of the highlights of the evening  was the guest speaker Mrs. Kerry Donovan Lee who is a talented and respected English and theater teacher at GMHS who was selected by the students to speak.  Kerry is an alum of Georgetown High School who was a star then and she is a star now. Her comments were inspirational and encouraged the students to follow their dreams and never give up. The students were able to relate to her comments and I know that her advice will stick with them because Kerry is a role model for her students.

A great deal of thanks should go out to NHS  Co-Advisors Chris DiFranco and Kate Cataldo , who lead the ceremony and  continue to ensure that the selection process is fair and  this ceremony is a true celebration and recognition of the great efforts of these talented and committed students.  Thanks also to the current members of the National Honor Society for being there on stage  to enthusiastically welcome these new inductees into their prestigious society. The leadership, mentoring and the example they provide as young  people who stand for and live by the lofty ideals of NHS  is so inspirational to their peers!
