MHS Principal Hopes from Parents Heard

I want to thank the group of parents who attended last night’s focus group and those who sent me e-mails sharing their ideas and opinions about what they are looking for in the next Middle High School Principal when Mr. Lucia retires at the end of the school year. This group identified the importance of a selecting a Principal that is a positive , energetic and visible leader  in the school and within the community. He/She should also be an instructional leader who is focused on continuing the high quality curriculum and academic program for which Georgetown is currently known  and that  prepares all students  for success in college  and life beyond high school. One of the issues that was raised is the percentage of students who go to school elsewhere in the ninth grade. Parents in this group would like the next leader to work on motivating more of these students and families to choose Georgetown for their high school years. They felt that the  Principal should be a skilled communicator ,  approachable and someone who knows  how to relate to students by name.  The next leader should be savvy with technology and able to support the 1-1 technology initiative and technology integration.

The great thing is that I have spoken to many people from different groups and these attributes are consistently seen on everyone’s list. It is nice to see so much agreement and the Committee and I are using this information throughout the process. It is not too late to share your thoughts. Drop me an e-mail at jacobsc@georgetown.k12.ma.us if you have thoughts and opinions you want to share.

Tomorrow night ( Thursday) , we are interviewing the final  four candidates and then we will select finalists who will receive second interviews. I will continue to keep you posted about our progress.  Have a great night!
