GMHS Recognized for Outstanding Sportsmanship

Congratulations to the administration, coaches and the athletes at Georgetown Middle High School on their recent selection to the  2017 MIAA Sportsmanship Honor Roll.  This is a significant honor and one that the school is very proud to receive.  It is great to be recognized for outstanding sportsmanship  because , while winning is clearly a main goal, being good sports is also important.  I have always been proud to be at games and to see our teams representing our school with dignity and respect for the game and their opponents. I have been approached many times  by spectators from other teams who go out of their way to tell me how impressed they are with the way our players and coaches carry themselves. In many ways, these are the skills that they will take with them in their lives when their time playing for GMHS is over. The ability to win and lose gracefully, respect others especially in the heat of competition, collaborate with teammates and demonstrate self-discipline are all important life skills gained  through playing sports.

The school will receive a  banner or patch which will be presented at the Sportsmanship Summit on November 17, 2017 at Gillette Stadium.  The Sportsmanship Summit is a day filled with activities to celebrate the  sportsmanship displayed by schools ,such as ours,  from all across the state.

Congratulations to all for achieving this honor that is so well-earned and deserved. We are so proud of you!
