First Penn Brook Cookout A Big Success

Yesterday was like a party during the lunches at the Penn Brook School . Starting a new tradition, the school administration and the Maintenance Department hosted a school wide barbecue complete with grilled hotdogs and hamburgers , fresh watermelon and ice pops . There was fresh popcorn popping and music was blaring from a laptop operated by one of our very own Maintenance staff members the hip Jared Young. The tables were moved outside as was the serving line making for a fun cookout on a beautiful weather day !

It was funny when I was talking to a group of students about what they thought about having a barbecue at school and they looked at me and politely reminded me that this was not a barbecue. When I asked them why they thought that it was not a barbecue because there was no ribs, chicken or corn on the cob. When I told them that the food was cooked in grills , they told me that was why it was a cook out and not a barbecue. I stand corrected!

Many thanks to Margaret Maher, Mike Anderson, Food Services Director Sean Riley and Cook Manager Sue Caulfield and all of the teachers and staff who ate with their students and or helped supervise , the support and cafeteria staffs and the custodial maintenance staff  for creating a wonderful community event to end a great school year!
