DECA Students Excel at Regional Competition

Last Thursday night the President and Vice president of DECA Hailee O’Keefe and Lydia Molnar attended the Georgetown School Committee meeting to provide an update on the DECA Chapter for this school year.  This is the highest enrollment that the DECA Chapter  has had since it began seven years ago and the officers were proud to announce that once again the students from Georgetown brought home many top awards at the recent District 6 regional competition at Merrimack College. There were 9 school districts competing with over 750 total competitors and Georgetown sent 63 students which as I said is the largest number in the school’s history. Of the students that competed, 45 students ( over 70%) finished in the top 5 in every category in which they competed with the exception of one. That is just an amazing showing and represents the skills and preparation of these students who put in many hours outside of school  to get ready for these competitions. Advisor Lisa Ryer has led this Chapter since she began teaching at GMHS and ,under her leadership, the program has grown from 6 students in the first year to 62 this year. I had the pleasure to be a judge at the district’s as a way to share my support for the program and I had the chance to sit with the Georgetown students as the awards were given out.  I was so proud of every student whether they received an award or not because of the way they represented our school not only in the competition but through the sportsmanship they showed and the encouragement they gave to one another. They are a class act and I wish them all the best of luck at the state competition in Boston in March! Check out the results below.
