Community Call to Action- Youth to Present Report on Youth Risk Behavior Survey to the Community

You may remember that last year students in Grades 6-12 were given the opportunity to complete the Youth Assets and Behavior Survey . The purpose of this survey was to collect baseline information at both the district  and regional levels regarding perceptions of students about the assets/ supports  they experience and the risky behaviors in which students are engaged.

I am pleased to let you know that the results of this survey are in and are going to be presented this month by several Georgetown students as well as students from the five area of towns with whom we are working in partnership. This group of regional students have convened for a data summit to review , analyze and prepare a presentation of the regional results that will be presented to each of the five communities that participated.

We are very excited because this is the first time that results of any survey will be presented by students from their perspective  rather than by adults from our perspective. Following the presentation, the students will be engaged  in developing an  action plan, along with the adults ,  to address the areas that  need to be strengthened.

The following week on May 1st from 6:00 PM –  8:00 PM , Georgetown Cares will sponsor a seminar led by  Regional Project Director Tina Los who will discuss more about the 40 developmental assists and how the community supports its youth both in school and within the community . She will also dive more specifically into Georgetown’s results and lead a discussion about how to increase assets in the areas that were identified as needing improvement. Mark your calendars for both evenings.

Below I have included a copy of the promotional materials about this event and I hope the community will come together to “be part of the solution” .  This is a very important topic and hopefully the start of a community conversation about how best to support our students.

Save the Date for a COMMUNITY CALL TO ACTION – Please join us to hear the results for the 2017 Attitudes & Behaviors Survey Student Presentation on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 for 6:30- 8:00 PM at GMHS.

Everyone is invited – parents, students (grades 6-12), community members and leaders. We hope you can join us! Young people from Georgetown and five other local communities who partner with the Essex County Asset Builder Network will present the regional data from the 2017 A&B Survey taken by our youth, grades 6-12, last fall. This survey measured youth Asset levels taken from the list of 40 Developmental Assets and risk behaviors of students. Youth from all partnership towns attended the Youth Data Summit to learn how to interpret and present the survey results. It is with great pride that we look forward to our STUDENT PRESENTATION of the 2017 ATTITUDES & BEHAVIORS SURVEY RESULTS. Please join us to discuss how we can support our youth to mature into healthy and successful young people.

Hope to see a big crowd at this meeting as it is a very important topic!
